State standards for nitrogen (Nitrate-N) in wells and at drinking water intakes are a maximum of 10 ppm.
Although phosphorus is not presently regulated, it is also of concern, because it is the limiting nutrient in
the growth of algae in streams and ponds. Phosphorus levels in excess of the EPA- recommended threshold of 0.2 ppm have been linked to algae growth in streams.
